Europe to Support Ukraine Without the U.S.
Amid recent tensions between the United States and Ukraine, European countries are working to strengthen their support for Kyiv independently.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced a new European initiative called the "Coalition of the Willing," aimed at presenting a peace plan for Ukraine to the United States. This announcement followed a meeting with European leaders in London, where Starmer emphasized the importance of this step in achieving peace in the region.
Meanwhile, a report by The Guardian suggests that this initiative raises questions about the feasibility of achieving peace given Russia’s ongoing hostility and the unclear stance of the U.S. The report also points out that Europe could face significant challenges in supporting Ukraine if the U.S. reduces its financial and military aid.
In this context, Anton Gerashchenko, an adviser to Ukraine's Ministry of Internal Affairs, highlighted the importance of European support. He stressed that Ukraine cannot withstand Russia without Europe's help and that European security is directly linked to Ukraine's stability.
Despite these European efforts, the question remains whether Europe can fill the gap left by a potential U.S. withdrawal of military support for Ukraine. Logistical and financial challenges could hinder the effectiveness and sustainability of European aid without American involvement.
